National University of Galway is now renamed as University of Galway
The Governing Authority of NUI Galway, has approved the renaming of National University of Ireland, Galway to University of Galway. NUIG has been empowering students since the mid-nineteenth century, at the centre of a network of campuses stretching from Shannon to Donegal. Since the University takes pride in Galway's journey to become a global city, and has grown together, the new name is truly apt.

National University of Ireland Galway is one of the most prestigious universities in Ireland with a proven and distinguished track record of research and teaching. NUI Galway was previously a constituent college of the National University of Ireland and this was when it changed its name to University College, Galway. This title was retained by the university until the year 1997 when there were some changes made to the Universities Act and it got its name National University of Ireland Galway.

NUIG has intakes in september and the admissions begin one year ahead. International students have an earlier application deadline in NUIG even though the website mentions later dates. When the classes are full, applications will be closed in NUIG. It is better to apply as early as possible. NUIG application fee is 35 EUR and should be submitted to initiate assessment.

Undergraduate Entry Requirement for International Students
Applications submitted before NUI undergraduate application deadline are assessed on case by case basis. There are some programs that come with an additional undergraduate English requirement in NUI for students whose first language is not English. Undergraduate IELTS requirement in NUI is 6.0 while undergraduate TOEFL requirement in National University of Ireland Galway is 88. The undergraduate PTE requirement in NUI is 88 again.

Can I get a refund if I discontinue my studies after registration
After registering students can withdraw and are entitled to a partial fees refund up until 31 Oct. Admissions will assist you in calculating the refund amount. No refunds permitted after 31 Oct (for Sept intake) and after 31 March (for a Jan intake).
